About Us: Soofia International School is a prominent Cambridge International school in Lesotho, dedicated to nurturing well-rounded students who excel academically, physically, and socially. With over 1400 students, we believe in the importance of physical education and extracurricular activities as key components of a holistic education. We are looking to expand our sports program and are seeking a passionate and experienced Sports Coordinator/Teacher to lead the development of our athletics, tennis, basketball, netball, cricket, and football programs amongst others.
Role Overview: The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and teaching sports across various levels, promoting a culture of health and fitness in line with the Cambridge International standards. The role involves designing a robust sports curriculum, organizing events, and ensuring the physical well-being of all students. We are looking for someone with expertise in one or more of the following sports: athletics, tennis, basketball, netball, cricket, and football amongst others.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and oversee the physical education curriculum aligned with the Cambridge International framework and the school’s ethos.
- Teach and coach students across a range of sports, ensuring a balance of skills, fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Organize and coordinate sports teams, inter-school competitions, and intramural sports events.
- Promote and encourage student participation in extracurricular sports, fostering an inclusive and motivating environment.
- Provide training and mentorship to students at all levels, ensuring they have the opportunity to progress in their chosen sport.
- Manage school sports facilities and equipment, ensuring they are well-maintained and fit for purpose.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to integrate health and fitness into the broader curriculum and school life.
- Ensure the health and safety of all students during physical education classes and sports activities.
- Actively promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle and physical activity as part of the students’ overall development.
- Engage with parents, external coaches, and the community to further enhance the school’s sports offerings.
- Lead initiatives to enhance the school’s sports program and represent Soofia in regional and national sports forums.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field. A teaching qualification aligned with Cambridge International standards is preferred.
- Proven experience in coaching or teaching one or more of the following sports: athletics, tennis, basketball, netball, cricket, or football.
- Strong understanding of physical education principles and Cambridge curriculum requirements.
- Excellent coaching and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire students to reach their full potential.
- Experience in organizing sports events, teams, and competitions.
- Commitment to promoting health and fitness in young people, both in and outside the classroom.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong relationships with students, staff, and the community.
Desirable:
- Experience in integrating sports technology or data into coaching methods.
- Knowledge of injury prevention, sports nutrition, and student wellness.
- A track record of building successful sports programs or teams.
- Willingness to contribute to other extracurricular activities at the school.
