Yesterday the staff of Soofia International school wore black, orange and blue in observance of the 16 days of activism
against gender based violence. The color presentation is as follows:
BLACK – POWER TO ERADICATE VIOLENCE
ORANGE – A BRIGHTER FUTURE, FREE OF VIOLENCE
BLUE – SELF EXPRESSION & COMMUNICATION
The event commenced with an online presentation by Human Rights Officer for United Nations Lesotho, Lineo Badia who gave a lesson on human rights, gender and children’s rights.
“It is inhuman, immoral and illegal to see young boys and girls as sex objects” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Seabata Tutuoane who was also present at the event to share his knowledge on law and gender.
Lineo Matlakala, a Human Rights Activists who has worked with empowering the girl child for the past ten years raised the
importance of including the boy child who has been ignored and considered strong to take care of himself. As a result the
empowered girl child meets the less empowered boys, which eventually may lead to a violent young man.
All present at the event took the pledge to UNITE TO END GENDER BASED VIOLENCE. Soofia also looks forward to multiple sessionsthat will engage the students with knowledge on gender, human rights and law.
Thank you to all our guests for honouring our invitation and making the event a success.
